20 things I loved #2
Autumn 2023 edition
Hi everyone! Following my 20 things I loved, (basically) Summer edition, I’ve decided instead of monthly I will continue posting these quarterly, rounding up my previous season favourites. Wishing you all a cozy Sunday AND a beautiful last day of 2023.
I started seeing a new counsellor on fall equinox. Starting therapy with this counsellor may be the best thing I’ve done for myself this year (5/8 of my gal group all go to her too - she is THAT good). During our first session my counsellor said to me, “your mind tells a story but your body tells the truth”. Ouf! A quote that has now helped me trust the path I am guiding.
A common ground between some of my group of friends and I is that Halloween is not our thing. So for Halloween weekend we all decided on doing a 1920’s The Great Gatsby murder mystery party instead. It’s basically an IRL version of Clue. Twas’ SO fun.
My friends and I also started a Harry Potter book club. Essentially we were all going to read all the books and then have a Harry Potter themed bash in the Spring. I think some of us (including myself) have fizzled off (it is a big commitment, there are so many other things to read!) but nonetheless reading the first few books brought so much nostalgic joy. I’m now reading Lessons in Chemistry because I want to watch the TV show. I am enjoying it. There is so much to read so litttttttle time.
Speaking of TV shows, B and I are just finishing Ted Lasso. I know we’re late to the party but WOW. Besides Friends, this for sure is my favourite sitcom-y show I have ever watched. I said to B the other day, “watching Ted Lasso should be mandatory for everyone. I think it’s made me a better person”.
I picked up the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask during Sephora’s VIB sale. My lips have never felt so soft. I apply morning and night. (Be aware, if you have grey bamboo silk bedsheets it could stain, hypothetically).
My Noni and I were going through some of my Opa’s clothing to donate and I found the perfect blue and white pinstripe shirt. Something I had been on the hunt for since the Spring.
After I ran out of my Saje Rosemary Oil, which I would wear everyday, I re discovered my love for the Replica By the Fireplace perfume. Bless the half travel size bottle (now empty) in the bottom of my drawer. If you love woodsy, spicy, tobacco-y scents you’ll love it. It is very similar to Picot Collective’s Honey Tobacco.
Scoring Taylor Swift tickets!!!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
This Steve Madden scarf I coincidentally scored for $20.00 (after seeing/falling in love with a similar style online the day before) . I clearly still don’t know how to selfie.
Kate Eskuri’s ‘The Reset’ Substack. Kate is a registered nurse with her doctorate degree in integrative health. As referenced in this post, she refers to herself as “crunchy”, as she “respect[s] modern medicine, [but] *prefer[s]* to start with natural remedies, nutrition, and lifestyle choices”. It has been such a joy to follow along with Kate!
I am about three years late to the party, but I have finally started making my own sourdough. It has felt so heartwarming to make, eat, and gift this delicious delight.
B and I have started going to the Banff Mountain Film Festival yearly. It’s something I now look forward to every year now. Humans can be so cool!!!!
As a die hard Birkenstock wear-er. This holiday AD made me so happy. There truly is a Birk for every occasion!
For the past four months, I have been writing down every purchase I make and categorizing all of it at the end of the month to see how much I am really spending/where I am spending it. It has been super eye opening and it really makes me think about each purchase more thoughtfully. I think it was important for me to get a better sense of where and how I spend in order to create a structured budget for 2024. I need to retire the good ol’ pen and paper though - What is your favourite budgetting app?!
I love fashion and beauty, but I think for a few years I lost that part of myself. Leaning more minimalist-ish, I’ve dove more into slowly curating a capsule type wardrobe. This season I took baby steps into styling more, and creating outfits out of things I already own. I’ve loved diving into the empire of Allison Bornstein. I’m still on my journey of figuring out my 3 style words. I’m thinking comfortable, classic and…
LMNT electrolytes are the best I’ve ever had. I only wish they didn’t come in single use packets.
I am eternally grateful for my gal pals that introduced me to Ed’s Soup, locally made in the Cowichan Valley. The perfect meals for when you don’t feel like really cooking, but still want a hearty home cooked meal (with days worth of left overs).
The Netflix special, Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones. Author Dan Buettner travels around the world to investigate the diets / lifestyles of the 5 different areas of the world where people live the longest. Okinawa, Japan has since been added to my bucket list!
A very wholesome girls night to celebrate a sweet friend.
PS - I’m doing a January no buy/low buy challenge. Are you in with me?! I’ll share more about the challenge and what it means for me next week.
Thanks for being here! See you (sometimes) on Sunday! Xx
